Circumcisions are not routinely done in the UK and there are NOT many places in the entire UK where it can be performed within the NHS. Parents who want their son circumcised have the responsibility of finding a reliable practitioner and bear the cost themselves. Circumcision is a surgical procedure even though “community circumcisers” consider it as a “simple” religious act! Finding a competent practitioner is not straightforward because: 1- There are no regulations about who can or connot perform it 2- Circumcision is not taught in British medical schools, nor does it form part of a medical graduates practical training.
1- First selection criteria for your son's circumciser must be experienced doctor and hygienic environment. 2- Do not allow someone to perform surgery on your son simply because they are cheap or close by. 3- Home circumcisions are an absolute no-go area unless practiced by a qualified and experienced doctor or surgeon. DO NOT put your comfort before your child’s health by choosing an unknown practitioner who comes to your home and does it on your kitchen table! There are much higher risks of infections and bleeding and the majority of parents who had done it for their first son are full of regrets! 4- Circumcisions must be done in uncompromised hygienic conditions (a clinic or a hospital with sterile rooms and appropriate materials) by specially trained and experienced doctors / surgeons using safe and clean instruments. Even a GP surgery may not be hygienic enough to do a circumcision. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
